Do you have someone on your Christmas list that seems to have everything or maybe you cannot think of anything you need for Christmas? Well, Traveling Murphy has the answer to your problem, give an experience. Recently I have been receiving a lot of experiences as gifts, for Christmas last year my in-laws gave us a weekend getaway to Lake Geneva that included a cooking class. The experience is something we still talk about and we have lots of photos to enjoy. So here is my list of ideas that might be able to help you book an experience for a Christmas gift or at least get you thinking about a new gift idea.
Earlier this year I went on a wine tour with the crew at High Five Adventure. From the games on the bus to the new friends we made at all of the stops, this was a fun experience. The girls at High Five Adventure have a bus leaving Batavia and headed to Utica’s Winter Wine Walk on Saturday, February 13th. This makes the perfect gift for your significant other or your mother. Tickets make a perfect stocking stuffer! Buy tickets here.
Do you have someone on your list who loves to cook or maybe cannot turn off the Food Network? Recently Susan Steffan, innkeeper and “breakfast diva” at The Farmers Guest House in Galena, competed on the Food Network’s Holiday Baking Championship. She is now offering cooking classes to show you how to make a five course luxury breakfast. An added bonus, you can make it the best gift they receive this year by purchasing a cooking school + over night stay package. Buy tickets here.
Recently we were dining at Cooper’s Hawk and got in a really good conversation with our waitress about travel ideas. Go to find out she is a travel agent. Martha is the owner of Martha’s Travel Corner. What makes her European trips so different is she does not just plan your trip and send you on your way, she comes with. She puts together a group tour and then stays with you so that she can worry about all the small details, you just sit back and enjoy the trip! Keep in mind this trip will be a little costly because it is multiple days in Europe so you might want to partner with someone else or maybe tell the gift receiver and see if they would like you to pay the deposit. Get creative and this will work. Here we come Italy! Tour Itineraries
A couple years ago Mike and I bought each other season tickets for Drury Lane in Oakbrook Terrace. Still to this day it is one of my favorite gifts because it gave us four excuses to get out and see a wonderful performance. I know season tickets tend to be a little costly so another great option would be to buy the person (and yourself) a ticket for a couple different performances at different theatres. My recommendation, Bye Bye Birdie at Drury Lane (January 14-March 13) and West Side Story at Paramount Theatre in Aurora (March16-April 24).
